Background checks
Handyman+ uses industry-standard third-party background check providers to screen pros who perform work in your home or on your property. We run checks before pros are approved to receive jobs.
Who gets checked
- Pros (handymen, contractors): Required before listing or accepting jobs through Handyman+.
- Delivery partners (
): Required—they enter homes and jobsites. - Tool renters and tool owners (): Identity verification required; background check where applicable for high-value equipment or repeat use.
What we check
- National criminal search
- Identity verification
- County-level records where relevant
Results are reviewed before approval. We reserve the right to decline applications based on findings. If you have questions about your check or results, contact us.

(tool rental and delivery) requires identity verification for tool owners, renters, and delivery partners. This includes agreement to terms and, where applicable, ID upload or document verification. We do this for legal, ethical, and safety compliance.
Licensing and certifications
For trades that require licenses (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC in Florida), we verify credentials when pros apply. License verification and display on profiles is in development. Pros can list certifications and licenses in their application; we review and confirm where applicable.
